       Cluny Cathedral

A self catering holiday in the Dordogne, France.

A beautifully renovated farm complex with luxurious living space, own pool, a private walled in courtyard and nine acres of peaceful grounds. Sleeps up to 15.

In the 12th century the English Monarchy had dominion over the whole of the west of France. Henry I's daughter Mathilda, married Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou by way of ensuring victory over her rival for the English throne, King Stephen. Henry II Plantagenet, born of this union, married Eleanor of Aquitaine securing the Aquitaine region for the English throne. Henry's son Richard I Lionheart built the magnificent castle at Beynac, which is very much worth a visit.

The perigordian farmhouse, Le Pre was built in the 18th Century and extended after the Napoleonic wars. It is situated in its own 9 acres of lush grassland overlooking the hills and the tiny hamlet of St. Paul de Serre crossed by the small river Serre.

Le Pre lies 15 mins. drive south of Perigueux, the capital of the Dordogne department. The Pecharment wine region is within easy reach of St Paul de Serre. Les Eyzies, Sarlat and Beynac are all within easy driving distance of Le Pre.

Perigueux has a Roman town (Cite Romaine) and a medieval centre built from dressed white stone housing some of the most exciting restaurants in the Dordogne.
